Will I be locked into paying DACT every time I need to add or remove a user?
No. Every commercial access control system we install includes admin software access and training so your team can add new staff, remove leavers, change permissions and issue temporary credentials yourselves. You only need to call us for hardware faults, additional doors, or system upgrades, not for routine user management.
What happens if someone loses their fob or card?
The lost credential is deactivated through the admin software in seconds, so it can’t be used to enter the building even if found. A replacement fob or card is issued at minimal cost. For higher-security premises, we recommend mobile credential systems where there’s no physical card to lose.
Does access control still work if the power or internet goes out?
Yes, with the right design. Access control systems we install include battery backup so doors remain operational during short power cuts. For longer outages, fail-safe locks default to unlocked (for emergency egress) and fail-secure locks default to locked (for higher-security zones). We’ll discuss the right configuration for each door during the survey. Internet outages don’t affect day-to-day operation as the system stores permissions locally.
Can access control work with my existing doors, or do I need new ones?
In most cases your existing doors can be retrofitted with maglocks, strikes or electronic deadlatches without door replacement. Heavy fire doors, older timber doors and some glass doors may need additional bracketing or alternative hardware. We assess each door during the survey and recommend the least intrusive option for your premises.
Are biometric systems legal under UK GDPR?
Yes, but they require additional documentation. Biometric data is classified as “special category” personal data under UK GDPR, which means you need a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA), clear staff consent procedures and secure storage. We provide DPIA template documentation as part of biometric installs to keep you compliant, alongside guidance on what your staff handbook should say.
