DACT designs, installs and maintains aspirating smoke detection (ASD) systems for commercial and industrial premises across the UK. Rather than waiting for smoke to reach a detector, an ASD system actively draws air through a network of sampling pipes and analyses it continuously, identifying combustion particles long before they are visible.
Aspirating systems are governed by EN 54-20, the European product standard for aspirating smoke detectors, and installed as part of a wider fire detection system designed to BS 5839-1. They are specified where conventional point detection is impractical or too slow — high ceilings, harsh environments, or premises where the cost of a fire, or of a false alarm, is unacceptably high. For standard commercial detection, see our commercial fire alarm service.
